Our
story
It began with a vision of one
person — Nancy Quillen. Her dream was to establish
a ministry where creative skills are used to help others
who are experiencing hardships. A member of First Baptist
Church Melbourne, Nancy Quillen, along with six other volunteers,
organized the ministry called Patchwork of Grace in September
2003. Defining our procedures, we set forth the following
as our mission:
| • |
To extend a sense of care and comfort
to people suffering from serious illnesses; |
| • |
To extend a sense of protective caring and hope
to homeless people, battered women,
and migrant workers’ children; |
| • |
To extend a sense of love to neglected children
and babies of crisis pregnancies; |
| • |
To extend a sense of security to children arriving
for emergency medical care. |
|
During its first year, Patchwork of Grace distributed 400 quilts. To date, 2,500
quilts and numerous handcrafted items have been delivered to individuals
and organizations. Furthermore, we rejoice that our ministry has spread to
other
states and countries, such as Iraq and Romania.
